Ode Ilo / ARMAS

I need artistic practice to live more authentically and to grieve societal injustice. The produced art is a visible outcome of my ongoing process of understanding myself, my rural family history and my experience of societal structures. My main artistic method includes creation of artist personas that I use especially in Drag and poetry, but also for narrating visual art. My current artist aliases are ARMAS or Ode Ilo. Other significant aliases, which I have used or which are present in the art I have created: Ode Incubus, Helinä Eloranta, Filip Emil Hämäläinen and Alastor Laakso.

Performances
Ode Ilo finds inspiration from artist personas, and is itself one. They were created in the artistic process of their predecessors': Filip Emil Hämäläinen and Helinä Eloranta. The looping cycle of artist personas' creating new ones is a method for the artist to understand, process and document their gender, sexuality and prevailing societal gender roles.
Exhibitions
Most of my art exhibitions so far have been connected to my ongoing project "In Memory of the Binary". The project is illustrating my processing of the internalized societal structures as nonbinary person.
